Boutique Ultrasound is a small, independent directory of keepsake ultrasound studios. We exist because moms deserve a way to tell a credentialed sonographer apart from someone who bought a machine off the internet last Tuesday.

01 · The problem
Why we exist.
Keepsake ultrasound — non-diagnostic 3D, 4D, and 5D scans booked for the joy of seeing your baby's face — is, in most US states, an almost completely unregulated industry. Anyone can buy an ultrasound machine. Anyone can rent a strip-mall storefront, print a logo, and start booking pregnant women on a Saturday morning.
There is no licensing requirement for the operator. There is no minimum training standard. The same machine that produces a beautiful, safe scan in skilled hands can be misused by someone who took a weekend course off YouTube.
That is the gap we built Boutique Ultrasound to close. Not by certifying anyone — we are not a regulator — but by being stubbornly picky about which studios get listed, and being transparent with you about exactly what “picky” means.
02 · The floor
Our quality bar.
Every studio on this site is operated by a sonographer who holds one of the following credentials:

- BMUSUnited Kingdom
This is a site-wide gate, not a paid upgrade. A studio cannot pay us to skip the credentialing check. If we cannot verify that a named, credentialed sonographer is operating the equipment, the studio doesn't appear on the directory — full stop. Read the full credentialing policy →
03 · The lines
What we don't do.
We do not take payment in exchange for higher rankings. We will never let a studio buy its way to the top of a city page. The order in which studios appear is determined by Google Place rating and review count, credential status, and editorial signals — not by who wrote us the biggest cheque.
Featured Studios pay for badge visibility, not for placement. A Featured studio gets a gold marker and a small section on the relevant city page; it does not jump the queue. If we ever change this, we will tell you here, in this paragraph, before we change it anywhere else.
04 · The point of view
Our bias, stated up front.
Every directory has a point of view. Ours is openly:
We will tell you when the FDA discourages something we list. We will tell you when a studio's claim doesn't hold up. We will not call a non-diagnostic scan a “medical” service, because that is not what it is. Read the full position on our Safety & FDA page — it cites the FDA, ACOG, and AAFP directly.
05 · The team
Who we are.
We're a small editorial team — a handful of writers, researchers, and engineers — and we operate the directory the way we'd want a directory operated if it were our pregnancy on the line. We are not affiliated with any clinic, chain, or ultrasound machine manufacturer. We are not part of a hospital system.
We don't list our names on the studio cards because this is not about us; it is about whether the studio you tap on is the right one for your appointment.
What we will tell you is the shape of our process: discovery through Google Places API and direct outreach, credential verification against external registries, editorial review in Notion, then publication to the live directory. Read the full editorial process →
06 · Coverage
Where we are.
As of today, the directory covers 208 studios across 9 US cities. Every listing carries a verified Google Place ID, a real address, real coordinates, and a sonographer credential we have checked.
We are slowly expanding into additional cities, and we'd rather grow at the speed of verification than fake a national footprint we can't back up. If you'd like to suggest a studio we're missing, the editorial page has the right email and our 48-hour correction promise.
